It starts with a bell
it is raining on a battlefield
there is a single drum – a heartbeat
the smell of fire dampened by rain
a figure emerges from the destruction – a woman: she has a story to tell you
…is the kind of arty farty process I go through while creating a song – I love writing with some sort of story in mind and the more visual the better! Colours, pictures, images and even smells all help create a song for me. I had this very clear image from the start with ‘Stop Me’ of a woman finding her power and regaining strength and general ‘baddassness’ (sometimes I make up words when nothing else quite fits) and it took me roughly an hour to write it, it kinda just plopped out of the sky and felt as if I had written it ages ago, like an old friend who I hadn’t seen for years … or maybe I’m just a bit bonkers.
I’m definitely VERY inspired by the tv and movies I watch, I love the fantasy and drama of shows like Game Of Thrones and movies like The Hunger Games.
Basically – I figure if people like the same tv and cinema as me, then they might like hearing songs that have a similar dramatic fantasy epicness vibe – each song is like a mini movie in itself.
Melancholy drama with lots of big drums – LOVE IT!
